My Story
BACKGROUND
Dr. Jennifer Salisbury is a proud Maui resident and a dual citizen of the United States and Canada. She is deeply committed to fostering community connections and specializes in operating her rental properties in both countries remotely. After the devastating Maui wildfires, Jennifer applied her expertise in construction management to support housing expansion efforts in Maui County and beyond.
EDUCATION
Jennifer is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and served as a nuclear propulsion engineer aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN 65). She holds two master’s degrees and earned her doctorate in education, where her research focused on intergenerational communication.
CAREER
Jennifer hosts an award-nominated podcast called "My Life As A Landlord", where she educates U.S. and Canadian landlords on building standardized systems, navigating awkward conversations, and improving property management techniques. She and her husband, Michael, a licensed general contractor in Hawaii, have been recognized for their contributions to real estate, including winning on-stage awards for their South Maui condominium projects, which they began developing in 1995. Most recently, they broke ground on a 48-unit tiny home community in British Columbia, Canada, furthering their commitment to innovative housing solutions.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Jennifer is an active member of the Maui Chamber of Commerce and the Construction Industry of Maui. She serves as the Board Secretary for Maui United Way and was recently appointed to the State of Hawaii's Small Business Regulatory Review Board, where she continues to champion local business and housing initiatives.
